Presents Proffered at the P Party

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

As Sprite’s guests arrived they Placed their Presents on the table near the front door. Sprite was thrilled to see some many wonderful gifts.
I told her she must write a thank you letter to each one who had given her a gift. However it was quite a challenge working out who had given each gift as not all of them had cards or tags with them.
See if you can help us work it out

Participants arrive at the P Party

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

The guests are arriving for Sprite’s P Party and I have been kept busy as the official Portrait Painter for the event.
The Memory Elephant has also helped in the Preservation of memories by acting as Photographer Pachyderm to record Pictorial memories.
The Origami Secretary Bird had undertaken some P.D. so that he could act as P.A. and organise the P.R. for the event.
Onetwitterbird was of the opinion that HE was the one in charge of P.R. and took every opportunity to appear in the media as the spokesman. The other Twitter Birds actually did the bulk of the publicity work.
The Origami Secretary Bird was of the opinion that the event should be combined with New Year’s Eve festivities and went ahead and hired a Pyro-technics Expert to provide a fireworks display.
In spite of PC PC PC acting as security to the front door and the Policeman on Push bikes Patrolling the Perimeter, a few extra guests entered over the walls.
These included a Parachutist, Petra Polona the Polish Pole Vaulter and Aviatrix Amelia Earhart.
PC PC PC was not going to let Amelia Earthart enter until Sprite said she wanted her to be present and introduced her as Pamela Pearhart Plane Pilot.
If you would like to see the costumes the guests wore please see the Powerpoint Presentation at http://giftedresources.org/jo/files/guestarrivals.ppt

Floral Arrangements for the P Party

Monday, December 21st, 2009

I am building incentives into the task of packing for our move. For every few boxes I pack I give myself some time on the computer to work on my website, visit my Twitter friends and to look in on Sprite and help her with the Preparations for her P Party.
Today’s assignment for Sprite was to organize the floral arrangements.
She is using Potted Plants as well as arrangements in Porcelain and Pottery vases. She has also made some Posies and has Petals for scattering.
Flowers and plants she has used are Peony roses, Petunias, Philodendrons, Phlox, Poinsettias, Pomegranate flowers, Poppies and Proteas.

Games People Play at P Parties

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Sprite has already set up some of the indoor games she wants to play at her P Party. It is not surprising that she has chosen
Pin the tail on the donkey
Piñata
Pass the Parcel
She also has a Player Piano, Mrs. P reading stories, a Poets’ Corner, a Punch and Judy show, a Popcorn machine, Pictionary, Parcheesi, Pong and Pacman games and a Ping Pong table set up indoors.

For outdoor games she has requested a Playground, Pogo sticks and Pony rides
She even wanted to have a Polo match but I told her that would not be Possible

She has also invented several games that she wants to play and has been dictating the rules and the contents of the game cards onto her voice recorder.
It has been keeping her busy while I get on with Packing but I guess she will want me to transcribe them for her later.

Here are her games:

Pleased to meet you Polly Pringle Introduction Game
Everyone has to meet everyone else at the P Party and introduce themselves. One person meets another and they introduce themselves. Then they have to take the person they have just met and introduce them to another person until everyone in the room has met everyone else.

Presenting Peaceful Patrick Porter Cumulative Memory Game
Everyone stands in a circle. The first person says his name and an adjective which describes him. The people who follow have to remember all the names that have been said so far in reverse order.
For example
“I’m Peaceful Patrick Porter”
The person to his right then says “I’m Pretty Patty Penfold and I would like to Present Peaceful Patrick Porter”
The person to her right says “I’m Portly Portia Patterson and I would like to present Pretty Patty Penfold and Peaceful Patrick Porter”

Permutations Handshakes
Work out how many handshakes there would be if everyone shook hands with everyone else? Then for a challenge how many handshakes would there be if you shook hands with the other hand as well? What if you shook hands with each hand and then with both hands?
And then some of the guests have four legs!

Pretend- a game like Charades but all the actions and situations must begin with P.
If you can think of any other P Games which Sprite could have at her Party; Please write to her in the Comments section below.

P.S. I have decided that I will attend Sprite’s P Party as a Portrait Painter so that I can paint portraits of Sprite’s guests.

Planning for the P Party

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

I am feeling very relieved as we have found a new home to rent when our lease expires. Now we have the Packing to complete!
Sprite, however, does not have any packing to do and has launched into the Planning of her P Party with great enthusiasm.
She has started to decorate by putting up Party Lights, Pin the tail on the Donkey Picture and a Piñata and putting PC PC PC See http://www.giftedresources.org/jo/blog/?p=15  in Place to provide security by screening the guests for Proper credentials and Political Correctness when they arrive and monitoring their behaviour.
She tells me that additional security will be provided by Policemen Patrolling the Perimeters on Pushbikes.

Sprite has also started to help her crew put on their costumes for the party. The Topiary Tree Tessellation Birds are already dressed as a Partridge in a Pear Tree.

Possibly Postponing the P Party

Friday, December 11th, 2009

I had to hit Sprite with a bit more bad news.
“There is a Possibility that we will have to Postpone the P Party” I told her.
“The landlord and his family want to move into our home and we have to find another Place and then Pack and move and then unpack again.
So I will not have as much time to help you draw up Plans and shop for Provisions for the P Party.
We will still have the P Party. I will enjoy taking some time away from house hunting and packing to prepare for the party – it will just take a bit longer.
We both need to learn Patience!”

Visit the Pyramids with the Memory Elephant

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

While Sprite munched an Un-Mobius bagel (she made me eat the two failed attempts) she confided that she had not had a good night’s sleep.
“The Memory Elephant wanted to take me to the Pyramids and triangles” she said. “There were the Egyptian pyramids and equilateral, isosceles and scalene triangles and right-angled triangles and all their facts.
Then there was Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and Bloom’s Taxonomy and Piirto’s Creativity Pyramid and RTI Pyramid and an Aztec Pyramid (at least I think it was Aztec) and it was all very exciting.
But now I’m really tired. Can I stay home today and plan my P Party?”

Mobius Bagel

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

“I want a Mobius Bagel for breakfast” announced Sprite. “You have to mark out the lines and then cut it the right way and it will turn out as two linked halves. It’s called a Mathematically Correct Breakfast.”
You can find out how to do it here.
http://www.georgehart.com/bagel/bagel.html

I remember the days when our children were very small and one always wanted triangle sandwiches, one wanted squares and another wanted rectangles.
Thank heavens none of them were quite as demanding as Sprite!

“Why don’t you create one for yourself while I get some work done?” I said.

Appreciation Coaching

wishlist01
Sprite had left her Christmas wish list in a prominent position.
I had a sinking feeling that she was in for some disappointments

I knew that when she wrote ‘Good Telescope’ she was thinking of something along the lines of the Hubble telescope and the $45.00 toy one was not going to impress her.
And when she wrote ‘Good Microscope’ she was thinking of an electron microscope not the150X magnification one which had been purchased for her.

And a REAL!!! pony was just out of the question.

I hoped we would not be having tears and tantrums which would do Emotional Dabrowski proud on Christmas day. And, as the people who gave her the gifts would have put thought, time and effort into purchasing them for her, I hoped she would be able to thank them graciously.

Fortunately Dr. Michele Borba had foreseen just such disappointments occurring for children around the world and published an article about giving children practice in accepting gifts graciously even when disappointed

What colour is Christmas? 2

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

“I need to know what colour Christmas is,” said Sprite ‘because I want to be sure I am using the proper colours to decorate my bedroom.
Mrs. P had her decorations up when I visited her. She gave me a present too. It’s a video which you can watch at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytLffjcbBjc

“I always thought of Christmas as red, white and green like the holly in the carol The Holly and the Ivy” Sprite said.

“Most of the shops have red, white and green decorations in their windows and display stands. I have a wreath and other decorations that are red, white and green.
The table linen shop had a window decorated in only silver and white and then a display of all red and gold. That looked really stylish just having two colours.
The New Age shop had a lavender colour theme and my purple crystals have grown really well now so I want use them to decorate.
And for some reason that dark blue night sky colour seems like a Christmas colour too so I want to put your Christmas greeting up as a poster”

“So what colour would you choose to represent Christmas?” I asked

“I want to use all of them.
If I could only pick one colour, I should pick white because white light is made up of all the colours in the rainbow.

And also white would be the right colour for this verse

‘The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. Isaiah 9:2 New King James Version’
